VP-16 from Ray Jobes.
NAME: Eagles
TAIL CODES: HH ('53 to mid '57) /LF (from mid '57)
This set of photographs is from the collection of Mr. Ray Jobes, who was generous enough to let me and all of you enjoy this visit into the past. Ray was with VP-16 from 1955 to 1958, and deployed with the squadron to at least NAS Keflavik and Port Lyautey, Morocco. Ray sent me a big collection of b/w negatives and prints, both of the airplanes themselves and of various other subjects, people, places etc. I have no way of doing those other things justice, but have decided to put as many P-2 photos as possible on this page, additionally to what is on the main VP-16 page. This means more than one view of some of the airplanes. I would love to get comments from all of you who know about these photographs, dates, places and other things. I will then include them on this page, rather than on the main VP-16 page.

No idea as to time, but taken from far back, and enlarged quite a bit, hence graininess.

1. Probably taken at Keflavik during the winter of 1956 to 1957. This is also consistent with the HH tailcode. Note this airplane still has the HH tail code, but seems to be painted in the Seaplane grey overall scheme. This can be seen by comparing the outline of the roundel, which is insignia blue to the adjacent area which is a different color. On the Sea Blue airplanes this difference can't be seen.

1. Both are probably taken at NAS Keflavik during the 1957 deployment.  I don't know which squadron replaced VP-16 in April 1957, but it might have been VP-5. Note that the VP-5 crew seems to have just wiped enough snow away to be sure that they were getting into their own MC-12.
After a lot of deliberation the BuNo of MC-12 is most likely 128372. That plane was seen in Blackbushe, England on the 4. June 1957 and the shape of the last digit on the lowest photo agrees with a 3.
